Campmeeting 2023 – Joseph Coat Offering

Campmeeting 2023 – Joseph Coat Offering

Campmeeting is coming soon.  What is new?  New venue - Riverchase Community Church.  New format - One day. What is the same? Fellowship, singing, outreach, Bible study, inspiring worship, and powerful preaching.   Coming back this year is Joseph's Coat Offering.  This offering was a tradition for campmeeting for many years.  Everyone enjoyed seeing the pastors or congregational representatives bring up the offering from their church.  This offering supports the many ministries of the General Assembly of the Church of God in Alabama from youth…

My Response To The Current Situation In The Church Of God

My Response to the Current Situation in the Church of God

I have been watching and listening to the expanding conversation surrounding a website launched by an independent group with ties to the Church of God movement but in no way representing the movement.  The Church of God movement is unique in that we are truly a movement so no one person speaks for the Church of God.  The General Assembly of the Church of God, which is a gathering of pastors and lay leaders from across the United States and Canada, meet every other year to discern…

The Joy Of Camp Chula Vista

The Joy of Camp Chula Vista

I was talking with some friends about Camp Chula Vista in a public place when another person walked up.  He had heard us discussing Camp Chula Vista.  He said, “I know about Camp Chula Vista.  My sister went there one year with a group and was saved during one of the services.”   Is that just a coincidence?  Probably, but this event also reveals the fact that many lives have been changed at Camp Chula Vista.  Its' impact on eternity is unmeasurable.  A new camping season is here.  Every week in June there will…

Wonderful Day At Memorial Park Church Of God Jasper

Wonderful Day at Memorial Park Church of God Jasper

Sunday, April 30, was special day for Memorial Park Church of God in Jasper.  The church was established on Feb 15, 1953 when eight people met in a rented house with co-pastors Margret McCleskey and Betty Jo Teaford.  The building where the church would eventually meet was built in 1958.  Since that small beginning the church grew to an apex of 50 in attendance during the pastorate of Philip Hardin in 2012.  The number of people attending started to decline after Pastor Hardin left until this year when eight…

What Is Good About Good Friday

What is Good about Good Friday

On this day God made peace with everyone in the world.  Every offence, every injustice, every sin, every wrong, every conflict was settled.  Not only did God forgive but that forgiveness was paid for on the cross with the blood of Jesus.  Jesus paid the debt for everyone, once and for all time.  Reconciliation is possible because the debt for any offence is already paid. Every personal offence in your life and in my life has been settled.  If you carry an offence, you are denying the cross.  If you hold…

What Is Happening At Asbury University

What Is Happening At Asbury University

On February 8 the chapel service at Asbury University began as usual but has yet to end.  God moved through the Holy Spirit to convict students and they were sensitive and obedient to the Spirit.  They went to the alter, prayed and repented.  More students joined them. Today has been ten days and people are still going to the alter, praying and repenting.  There have been days and nights of worship, prayer, and repentance continuing without let up.  People outside the university heard about what was happening and have…

Good News!

Good News!

What is news?  Is news what we hear on TV or read in the newspaper? I imagine most people know about the Super Bowl Sunday night because that event has been on the “news.”  Everyone knows about the balloon, and now two more objects, shot down over the United States or Canada because every news channel is covering it.    But have you heard about a revival in Wilmore, KY at Asbury University?  Have you heard that this revival is spreading to other places?  Now that is good news! Have you…
