The Solution to Evil
Unimaginable tragedy struck Uvalde, Texas on May 24. Twenty-one Innocent, helpless, beautiful lives were violently destroyed. We are angry, we grieve and pray for the families. What can be done to protect our most vulnerable from the most evil in our world? Jesus confronted evil and healed it. When he visited the area of the Gerasenes he found a community enduring an evil man who could not be controlled or tamed. Jesus cast out the demons that were tormenting the man and community and left them all at peace. As more information comes out about the man who committed this horrendous act, a far too common picture emerges. A troubled, young man who was bullied from a broken home, without hope, or direction. Like the demoniac from the Gerasenes the killer in Texas would cut himself, self -mutilation, because he said the scars looked good. Could Jesus have healed this sick young man of the demons that were tormenting him? Of course, he could. This tragedy reveals why the mission of the church in our communities is crucial. The church is a light in a dark world. The church is the presence of Jesus in the community. Church, your presence matters in your community. The hope, reconciliation, healing, and love you bring to the people of your community transforms your community and eternity. Politicians will pass laws but evil does not obey laws. Only the church has the power to permanently and eternally defeat evil. One of the results of this tragedy needs to be that we the church should be even more committed and passionate to bring Jesus to the people around us. Church you are the light of the world.
2 Corinthians 10:4
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
