Consistent Prayer Life
All of us will agree prayer is important even crucial. But are we consistent in our practice of prayer? I find the story of Daniel helpful in establishing a pattern of prayer. Daniel is in a foreign country because of the deportation of Jews by Nebuchadnezzar. By this time Darius is ruling and Daniel is an official in the court because of God’s favor to him and his dedication to God. Daniel was able to flourish in the foreign because he had a pattern of prayer as described this way in Daniel 6:10.
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
Notice that Daniel had a time for prayer and a place for prayer. We will have a time and place for anything that is important to us. We make something a priority by giving it a time and a place in our lives. If you have been unable to establish a pattern of prayer maybe it is because you have not established a time and a place for prayer. During our 21 days of prayer, I am asking each of us to choose a time and place for prayer and use it to pray at least 10 minutes a day.
Daniel was consistent in his prayer life. He allowed nothing to interfere with his time with God. Even a decree by the king to forbid prayer at pain of death did not deter him. Daniel still prayed. How consistent are you in your prayer life? Is your time with God a priority in your life? The ending verse of chapter 6 of Daniel says:
So, Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus[a] the Persian.
Daniel 6:28
There is power in a consistent prayer life.
