21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13

The Jewish people were in Babylon because of their disobedience to God.  But God had not deserted them.  He wanted them to know He was available if they would seek Him, if they wanted Him.  God does not impose Himself on us but gives us free will to choose Him or to choose to live without Him.  Do you want God in your life?  Do you want His presence with you every minute of every day?  Then seek Him, pursue Him, desire Him.  We pursue everything else we value but are we pursuing God with our whole heart?
We are at the beginning of a new year so let us start this year by purposely seeking God through 21 days of fasting and prayer.  Starting Sunday, January 16 and going through February 6 we will intentionally, purposely, and fervently pursue God.  Fasting is one way of focusing our attention on Him because we set aside something in our life to give more space for God.
“The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.”

Set aside a time and place to meet with God every day.

O, Begin! Fix some part of every day for private exercises… Whether you like it or no, read and pray daily. It is for your life; there is no other way; else you will be a trifler all your days… Do justice to your own soul; give it time and means to grow. Do not starve yourself any longer.
John Wesley
